Rockhampton’s charming historical architecture has captured the hearts of visitors for many decades. Founded in 1853 the city is home to heritage post offices, historic streetscapes, majestic cathedrals and quaint homes. Located on the Fitzroy River “Rocky” as it is known locally is the fourth largest city in the State. Moving from inland to the coast we explore the town of 1770. The then Lieutenant James Cook on his discovery voyage of the New Found Land Australia first set foot at this point on the 24th May, 1770. The town was named in his honour and a monument is erected near the spot where Cook and Joseph Banks came ashore. The Town of 1770 is nestled on the western side of a peninsula overlooking one of the most magnificent views of Bustard Bay and Round Hill Creek. During the tour we visit the Archer Park Rail Museum and take a tour of the Koorana Crocodile Farm as well as ride the tram around the Heritage Village. At the Capricorn Caves we have a Cathedral cave tour. Dinner and Show at The Footlights Theatre Restaurant is on the agenda and we have a full day LARC Paradise Tour at 1770. We also visit the Yandina Ginger Factory and take a train ride. We do a farm and factory tour at Maleny Dairies.
